　　Stem cells in plants and animals are maintained pluripotent by signals from adjacent niche cells. Here I will present a chromatin-based mechanism maintaining stem cells  in response to a mobile transcription factor from niche cells inArabidopsisroot and also discuss the molecular similarities between plant and animal stem cells.
