报告题目:Catalysis and Gas Separation in a Porous medium

报告简介:Porous materials come in a rich variety, and they have become a brand in the scientific community.  As fascinating as they are, their fame comes from an absence of something within – empty voids. Nanoporous structures e.g. Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Porous Organic Frameworks (POFs), Zeolites, Porous Organic Cages and Metal Organic Polyhedra offer a vast playground for pore engineering and, if needed, their subsequent decoration.

In my talk I will focus on two types – MOFs and POFs. When engineering a new catalytic system, one should mind the nature of the porous material of interest. For instance, both these extended frameworks are tunable, while only the former is highly crystalline. POFs, on the other side, outperform MOFs in terms of stability, which makes them somewhat more suitable towards harsh reaction mixtures. However, the MOF’s instability could be turned into an advantage. My second part of the talk will focus on the so-called MOF mediated approach. There, MOFs undergo pyrolysis and become a carbon matrix with the high content of uniform non agglomerated metal nanoparticles – a catalyst that is difficult to obtain with the conventional methods.

High crystallinity of MOFs comes with difficulties to their processability. Surface functionalization can overthrow this obstacle by transforming the porous solid into a processible porous liquid. MOF-based porous liquids can be used in gas separation; either directly in the form of a liquid membrane, or in boosting the MOF loading, and therefore the performance, of a mixed matrix membrane.
