The Institute for Advanced Studies of Wuhan University (Abbreviated as IAS), which is founded in April, 2014, is an independent institute directly affiliated to Wuhan University. The first president of IAS is taken up by Prof. Yuxian Zhu, a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Taking advantage of the strong basic subjects and versatile research projects in Wuhan University, IAS is aiming at developing into a high level interdisciplinary research center and talent graduate students training base. We are glad to share scientific research resources and open to various kinds of academic communication.


IAS will give priority to develop Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Material Sciences and relative research fields. Depended on fundamental research, IAS will focus on frontier subjects, encouraging young investigators with various kinds of backgrounds getting together, to discuss and share opinions on important scientific problems. IAS has attracted a group of talents with great academic achievements on their relative research fields, including members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, “Changjiang Scholars Professor” by The Ministry of education, awardee of "National Outstanding Youth Science Fund", “1000 Young Talent Plan” professor by The Central Organization Department.


Meanwhile, IAS is planning to further recruit 30 outstanding young researchers with different backgrounds from all over the world. Flexible mode in recruitment system, bonus system and evaluations system will be adopted. In order to keep the enthusiasm in research, we might break the traditional tenure system for professors and researchers. Through academic intercommunion of research findings in various fields, the collaborative studies in interdisciplinary projects and the graduate program of comprehensive education, IAS will promotes the interdisciplinary studies and try to build a good atmosphere for academic research in the university.

The goal of IAS are:


First, to provide a support infrastructure that will facilitate collaboration on interdisciplinary research projects.


Second, to promot the communication among all disciplines to bring new scientific view.


Third, to train students with interdisciplinary knowledge as well as advanced skills.
